Taxes
It's Tax Time!!! I generally get excited, because Eric & I normally get a pretty good tax return. We get to use that money to do exciting things like pay off debt, pay for Erics architect exams...fun stuff like that. Well, I just have to vent. Yesterday I got a 1099 in the mail from the state of Utah. We have to pay taxes on our state tax return from last year. What??? Isn't that money we have overpaid??? Now we have to pay taxes on our tax return??? I was just so mad I couldn't see straight. I've never gotten a 1099 from the government before and was just stunned. They suck you for every penny you are worth! I'm done venting now.

Ali--it's so true. They really do take ridiculous amounts of money away from us...all so that we can pay for illegal immigrants to be on medicaid. GRRRR.
The good news this year, though, is the new tax credit. Hurray!
That stinks...Hopefully this year will be better : ).
Just so you know you only have to claim it as income if you itemize. The reason being that if you itemize your deductions, you get the entire amount of state tax withheld the previous year as a write off. So whatever portion you get back you then have to claim as income the following year. This is actually Shari's husband who does taxes, so I just thought I would share some of my knowledge.
